I chose to utilize white and black charcoal (and eraser) on toned charcoal paper to depict a still-life composition that is personally important to me. My composition consisted of a pair of Crocs, a mini volleyball, my college backpack, and a stuffed dolphin that I have had since kindergarten. As the objects recede back into the paper, the value structures become more limited and the contour lines become less defined. This is an example of how atmospheric perspective is achieved within the piece. Linear perspective is also achieved via the depiction of the North Face logo on the backpack and in the value structure of the crocs. My utilization of both of these techniques ultimately helps create a believable three dimensional space and a compelling visual composition.
